Overview

Acupuncture and Moxibustion are two of the many external therapeutic methods in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM for short). More and more people around the world witness the amazing clinical effect of Acupuncture and would love to have Acupuncture treatment.

 

Because of this, more people worldwide would like to get good Acupuncture training to help their family members and treat people with Acupuncture techniques. To satisfy this need, the International School of Beijing University of Chinese Medicine - the top TCM university in China, offers a basic training program of Acupuncture and Moxibustion taught in English. Our instructors are excellent Acupuncture and Moxibustion doctors, with rich clinical and teaching experience for international students.  

 

PROGRAM OBJECTIVES

 

Providing an introduction and basic training to TCM studies as well as key practical skills in Acupuncture and Moxibustion.

 

TOPICS COVERED:

This 3-week certificate program consists of lectures, workshops and seminars:

 

1. Fundamental theory of Chinese medicine

2. TCM Diagnostics

3. Channels and acupuncture points

4. The techniques of Acupuncture and Moxibustion

5. TCM acupressure

6. Common diseases treated by Acupuncture and Moxibustion

7. TCM diet therapy

8. TCM Qigong , the Eight-Section Brocade exercise, visit to TCM museum and Chinese botanical garden, etc

 

The curriculum emphasizes a blend of skill-based practical exercises and peer-to-peer learning in groups.

 

LEARNING OUTCOMES

 

At the completion of the program, students will be ABLE to:

 

1. Have a general understanding of the basic theory of TCM, apply yin-yang and five elements theories to understand the physiological function and pathological changes of the human body, in addition to its relationship between nature and human beings.

2. Get to know basic techniques of four diagnostic methods of TCM and use them to understand the state of the human body.

3. Grasp the basic theory of meridian theory, including running course, distribution and indications of 12 regular meridians, 8 extraordinary vessels and collaterals.

4. Study the theory of Acupuncture points, learn the location and indication of approximately 100 commonly-used Acupuncture points.

5. Grasp basic acupuncture techniques such as insertion, manipulation, and withdrawal of filiform needles, cupping, Moxibustion and acupressure.

6. Apply the preliminary theories studied to analyze and differentiate the etiology and pathogenesis of diseases, grasp the treatment methods of some common illness.

 

WHO SHOULD ENROLL

 

This program is open for anyone who is interested in TCM Acupuncture and Moxibustion. It is equally suited for doctors who would like to build or improve their knowledge and techniques of TCM Acupuncture and Moxibustion. Participants are not required to have TCM background.

INSTUCTORS

 

Prof. Wang Yanping, Ph.D (in acupuncture and moxibustion),

Chief Physician (Licensed practitioner in acupuncture), supervisor for Master’s degree candidates, he is a Professor at the School of Acupuncture-Moxibustion and Tuina, Beijing University of Chinese Medicine. Also, she is a standing member of Clinical Therapy Committee of Beijing Society of Acupuncture and Moxibustion, an expert of ISO/TC 249 WG3 (Quality and Safety of Acupuncture Needles). She teaches courses of Channels and Acupuncture points, Techniques of Acupuncture-Moxibustion as well as Acupuncture-Moxibustion Therapy both in English and Chinese. She engages in acupuncture clinical practice in Guoyitang Clinic affiliated to Beijing University of Chinese Medicine.

 

Prof. Xue Weiguo, Ph.D (in Integrated Western and Chinese medicine),

Chief physician (Licensed practitioner in acupuncture), supervisor for Master’s degree candidates, is director of Tuina department of the school of Acumoxa and Tuina, Beijing University of Chinese Medicine. He is also a member of China Association of Traditional Chinese Medicine for Tuina, spinal rotation massage and pain. Teaches courses of TCM massage in English. With rich teaching experience, he is an excellent and popular instructor to both Chinese and International students. His clinical practice focuses on neck, shoulder, waist, leg pain and other musculoskeletal conditions. He also treats depression, anxiety and neuropsychiatric disorders in his practice.

 

Prof. Liu Xiaoyan, M.D.,Ph.D. (in the health preservation of Chinese medicine and the fundamental theory of Chinese medicine).

Associate chief physician (Licensed practitioner in Chinese medicine), supervisor for Master’s degree candidates, is a professor of Chinese medicine school, Beijing University of Chinese Medicine. She is also an expert member of Chinese Five Yun Six Qi Association. She teaches courses of TCM fundamental theory and health preservation both in English and Chinese. She is an excellent instructor and popular to Chinese undergraduate and International students, and has a rich teaching experience. Her clinical practice focuses on gynecological diseases, digestive disorders and cervical spondylosis, together with spinal problems. She is good at combining the Chinese herbs with acupuncture and massage in her clinic.  

 

 

HOUSING & DINING

 

Commuting Option

Students who live near campus, or who have family or friends they can stay with for the summer, may opt to attend Summer Session as a commuting student.

 

Residential Option

On-campus dorm residences typically have their own lounge, laundry facility, and common area. Student rooms are equipped with window coverings and furnished with an extra-long twin bed, pillow, bed linens, desk and chair, bookcase, dresser, and closet for each resident. In addition, each room has a private telephone and is wired for the Internet. Wi-Fi coverage is also available in residence halls and most     classrooms.

Living in Da Dong Bei hotel near campus:

Double room:134  RMB/day      Queen's Room: 134 RMB/day 

Triple room: 119.3 RMB/day      

 

Dinning option

 

We can offer temporary student card for daily meals in the canteen, the cost is less than 20RMB for per meal. BUCM meal can meet a wide variety of dietary needs with clean fresh food.

 

It's very convenient to have meals around the campus too. There are numerous restaurants with specialized Chinese cuisine and a few fast food restaurants like KFC and McDonald's.
