Basic Chinese massage therapy (Tui Na) Training Program

OVERVIEW

Chinese massage therapy (referred to as Tuina) is commonly defined as the ancient healing art of fingers and strength. Tuina has been practiced in China for over 5000 years. It’s a well-respected treatment modality known to be helpful and safe for a wide range of conditions. For these reasons, it’s widely accepted as a complementary and alternative medicine modality rapidly gaining international favor. Its efficacy has been demonstrated for the management of many medical and psychiatric conditions.

The International School of Beijing University of Chinese Medicine - the top TCM university in China, offers a basic training program of Chinese massage therapy (Tui Na) taught in English. Our instructors are excellent TCM doctor , with rich clinical and teaching experience in Chinese massage therapy (Tui Na) for international students.  

 

PROGRAM OBJECTIVES

Providing an introduction and basic training to Tuina manipulations commonly used, key practical skills in diagnosis and manual treatment for diseases commonly treated with Tuina manipulations.

 

TOPICS COVERED:

This 3-week certificate program consists of lectures, workshops and seminars:

1.General introduction to Tuina and its manipulations

2.Relaxing manipulation

3.Movement and stretching manipulations(1): procedure of neck and upper limbs warming and dreading manipulations

4.Movement and stretching manipulations(2): procedure of back and lower limbs

5.Neck pain and Tuina treatment

6.Neck and upper back pain and Tuina treatment

7.Shoulder and upper limbs pain treatment

8.Lower back pain and Tuina treatment

9.Tuina treatment for Internal diseases

10.Infantile Tuina, etc.

The curriculum emphasizes a blend of skill-based practical exercises and peer-to-peer learning in groups.

 

LEARNING OUTCOMES

At the completion of the program, students should be ABLE to:  

1. Have a general understanding of the basic theory of TCM, apply yin-yang and five elements theories to understand the physiological function and pathological changes of the human body, in addition to its relationship between nature and human beings.

2. Get to know basic techniques of four diagnostic methods of TCM and use them to understand the state of the human body.

3. Grasp the basic theory of meridian theory, including running course, distribution and indications of 12 regular meridians, 8 extraordinary vessels and collaterals.

4. Study the theory of Acupuncture points, learn the location and indication of approximately 100 commonly-used Acupuncture points.

5. Have a overall understanding of definition for tuina therapy, mechanism and therapeutic principle of tuina, Indication and contraindication for tuina therapy.

6. Be familiar with tuina manipulations commonly used, including their operation, essential, function, application, and attention. Commonly used manipulations contain yizhichan- thumb swing, gun-rolling, bairou-swing kneading, an-pressing, anrou-pressing kneading, dian-digital pressing, bo-fibrocrossing, na-grasping, nie-pinching, cuo-foulage, nian-finger twisting, etc.

7. Grasp method of diagnosis and manual treatment for soft tissue injury in spine, shoulder, and knee.

8. Grasp method of manual treatments for internal and gynecologic diseases.

9. Grasp commonly used specific points, manipulations and method of manual treatment for infantile diseases.

 

WHO SHOULD ENROLL

This program is open for anyone who is interested in Chinese massage therapy (Tui Na) . It is equally suited for doctors who would like to build or improve their knowledge and techniques of Chinese massage therapy (Tui Na). Participants are not required to have TCM background.

 

PROGRAM DATES:

This program is going to be taken place regularly every month with same contents.

Program runs from 8:30 am to 4:35 pm; Noon break: 12:00 a.m.-14:00

Teaching building area, Beijing University of Chinese Medicine, No.11 Bei San Huan Dong road, Chaoyang district, Beijing

PROGRAM FEE:

¥7,000 RMB (including learning materials)

 

COMPLETION CERTIFICATE:

Students will be granted completion certifications by BUCM after completing all lessons successfully.

 

INSTUCTORS

Prof. Xue Weiguo, Ph.D (in Integrated Western and Chinese medicine),

Chief physician (Licensed practitioner in acupuncture), supervisor for Master’s degree candidates, is director of Tuina department of the school of Acumoxa and Tuina, Beijing University of Chinese Medicine. He is also a member of China Association of Traditional Chinese Medicine for Tuina, spinal rotation massage and pain. Teaches courses of TCM massage in English. With rich teaching experience, he is an excellent and popular instructor to both Chinese and International students. His clinical practice focuses on neck, shoulder, waist, leg pain and other musculoskeletal conditions. He also treats depression, anxiety and neuropsychiatric disorders in his practice.

 

Prof. Liu Xiaoyan, M.D.,Ph.D. (in the health preservation of Chinese medicine and the fundamental theory of Chinese medicine).

Associate chief physician (Licensed practitioner in Chinese medicine), supervisor for Master’s degree candidates, is a professor of Chinese medicine school, Beijing University of Chinese Medicine. She is also an expert member of Chinese Five Yun Six Qi Association. She teaches courses of TCM fundamental theory and health preservation both in English and Chinese. She is an excellent instructor and popular to Chinese undergraduate and International students, and has a rich teaching experience. Her clinical practice focuses on gynecological diseases, digestive disorders and cervical spondylosis, together with spinal problems. She is good at combining the Chinese herbs with acupuncture and massage in her clinic.  

 

ACCOMMODATION

Commuting Option

Students who live near campus, or have family or friends with whom they can stay with for the session, may opt to attend the Session as a commuting student.

 

Residential Option

On-campus dorm residences typically have their own lounge, laundry facility, and common area. Student rooms are equipped with window coverings and furnished with an extra-long twin bed, pillow, bed linens, desk and chair, bookcase, dresser, and closet for each resident. In addition, each room has a private telephone and is wired for the Internet. Wi-Fi coverage is also available in residence halls and most     classrooms.

Dorm Fee:

Single Room: 70 RMB/day         Double room:30 RMB/day  

 

How much does it cost?

Living in Da Dong Bei hotel near campus:

Double room:134  RMB/day      Queen's Room: 134 RMB/day 

Triple room: 119.3  RMB/day     

 

Dinning option

We can offer temporary student card for daily meals in the canteen. The cost is less than 20RMB per meal. BUCM meal can meet a wide variety of dietary needs with clean fresh food.

It is also very convenient to have meals around the campus. There are numerous restaurants with specialized Chinese cuisine and fast food restaurants nearby like KFC and McDonald's.

* Refund and cancellation policy: We are unable to provide refund should an applicant register and fail to attend the program. A full refund will be given should the program be canceled due to insufficient enrollment.
